Acute and Chronic Pancreatitis
Pancreatitis is a ubiquitous disease. Although it is more prevalent in developed countries, accounting for approximately 210,000 yearly hospital admissions in the US, the wide variety of causes accounts for it being seen in every country. Even though it is an old affliction, its clinical and pathologic manifestations were not recognized until late in the 19th and early 20th century.
