It has been my privilege to have spent a lifetime in medicine, and in particular to have defined a syndrome – an illness – which is not only common but also potentially treatable. The discovery of “sticky blood” (or more prosaically “The antiphospholipid syndrome” or Hughes syndrome) came out of years of observation of patients with a disease called lupus.
