The interaction of particles with biological systems unravels a series of new mechanisms not found for molecules: altered bio-distribution, chemically reactive interfaces, and the combination of solid-state properties and mobility. The tremendous progress and recent advances of nanotechnology has not been accompanied by sufficient studies of nanomaterial toxicity even though they possess unique, completely new properties.
