Nuclear medicine utilizes radioactive molecules (radiopharmaceuticals) for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The diagnostic information obtained from imaging the distribution of radiopharmaceuticals is functional and thus fundamentally differs from other imaging techniques which are primarily anatomic in nature.
