It has been a decade since the first edition of this textbook came to press, and the field of geriatric surgery is growing. Over the last decade, Geriatrics has been recognized as a distinct aspect of surgery by leadership in our field and others. The American College of Surgeons established the Task Force for Geriatric Surgery, a Geriatrics Section in the Surgical Forum, and a community for Geriatric Surgery on the ACS Web portal.
