Cardiovascular disease is a major challenge for the health care system as it encompasses high levels of mortality and morbidity. Various cardiovascular complications, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes, are known to predispose the heart to become more susceptible to myocardial infarction and/or other pathological stimuli leading to the development of congestive heart failure.
