Lung cancer is the cancer with the highest incidence (1.61 million cases in 2008; 12.7% total cancer cases) and is the major cancer killer in both sexes across the world (1.38 million deaths in 2008; 18.2% of total cancer mortality). Due to moving tobacco industry focus from developed to a developing world, more than 50% of new cases now occur in the latter one.
