Receptors, channels, and transporters play a critical role in vascular signal transduction and are key elements in the pathogenesis of pulmonary vascular disease. They provide front-line mechanisms for regulation of normal smooth muscle, for endothelial and inflammatory cellular homeostasis, and for responding to the extracellular environment and external mediators.
