Immunization is one of the greatest advances in public health. Figure 0.1 shows a camel with a solar powered refrigerator on his back. Many vaccines contain live viruses that need to be kept cold, or the viruses will die and the vaccines will lose their ability to produce an immune response. The chain of refrigeration is called the cold chain.
