Since the publication of the first edition in 1991, a great deal of new information has become available regarding pathogenesis and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. While the armamentarium for use against viral hepatitis has expanded, especially for the treatment of hepatitis B, in many ways the evaluation and therapeutic decision making has become more complex.
