The antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), first described in 1983 by Dr. Graham Hughes and his team at the Hammersmith Hospital, included recurrent arterial and venous thromboses, fetal losses, and thrombocytopenia in the presence of autoantibodies, the so-called antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL).
