The role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cardiovascular system is Janusfaced. Whereas low concentrations of ROS are involved in variety of physiological signalling events, oxidative stress resulting from deregulated overproduction of ROS and/or impaired antioxidant defences contributes to cardiovascular disease.
