Specific phobias are one of the most common mental health problems included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR 2000). Estimates suggest the lifetime prevalence of specific phobia may be as high as 12.5% (Kessler et al. 2005).
