In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most advanced medical technology for the treatment of infertility. During this process, oocytes from the woman and the sperm from the man are brought together outside of the body, in an “artifi cial” environment (initially using glass made test tubes or Petri dishes and from which the name of the procedure in vitro originates).
